Most automotive legends begin with a grand plan. The first Koenigsegg began with something much simpler: a dream. Long before the company became synonymous with record-breaking hypercars and revolutionary engineering, Christian von Koenigsegg was a 22-year-old visionary with no automotive background and a seemingly impossible ambition. He wanted to build the fastest car in the world. The result was the Koenigsegg CC prototype, a machine that would ultimately become the foundation of one of the most innovative automotive brands of the modern era. Without this car, there would be no Jesko, no Regera, and no 2,000-horsepower Koenigseggs dominating headlines today. Every Koenigsegg that followed can trace its DNA back to this single prototype. What makes the story even more remarkable is how imperfect the journey was. The car's now-famous paint color was actually the result of a mistake at a Volvo paint facility. It was supposed to be magma orange, but the wrong code was entered. As a small startup with limited resources, Koenigsegg simply couldn't afford to repaint it.

The accidental color remained and became one of the prototype's defining characteristics. Underneath the bodywork sat an Audi-derived V8 paired with a supercharger, producing roughly 350 to 400 horsepower—modest by modern Koenigsegg standards, yet revolutionary for a young Swedish company in the mid-1990s. Today, the prototype resides in the Numero Uno Collection, where owner Gaurav Dhar spent more than four years tracking down, restoring, and preserving this irreplaceable piece of automotive history. More than a prototype, the first Koenigsegg represents the power of persistence.
