The Bugatti One-Off Evolution
For most manufacturers, building the fastest production car in the world would be the ultimate achievement. For Bugatti, it was only another chapter in a much larger story. When the Chiron Super Sport 300+ crossed the 300-mph barrier near Wolfsburg in 2019, the headlines focused on the number. Inside Bugatti, the conversation was different. Andy Wallace and the engineering team spent days driving at unimaginable speeds, learning how both machine and driver behaved beyond conventional limits. At more than 480 km/h, perception changes completely. Distances disappear, reactions become instinctive, and the horizon arrives faster than the mind can process. According to those closest to the project, the car was never lacking power. If anything, it was running out of road. “Potentially this could go faster and maybe even break the record again,” they say. Whether that day comes or not, the mindset remains unchanged. Pushing boundaries has never been a goal at Bugatti. It is simply part of the brand’s DNA.
BUGATTI'S MASTER PLAN
But speed alone has never defined Bugatti. While the world celebrated records, the company was already looking beyond them. The next challenge was not to go faster, but to become more exclusive and more deeply connected to its heritage. This vision gave rise to the modern coachbuilt era, beginning with the Divo. More than a redesigned Chiron, it represented a completely new interpretation of what a Bugatti could be. Focused on agility rather than outright top speed, the Divo quickly exceeded all expectations, with forty examples selling out almost immediately. It was followed by the Centodieci, a tribute to the legendary EB110, limited to just ten units. Because at Bugatti, true exclusivity is not defined by demand, but by the discipline to remain rare.
